Letter from USGAS President Tina D. Pierce, PhD

Greetings,

I am humbled and proud to greet you as your Undergraduate Student Government Alumni Society (USGAS) President. I want to extend a special thank you to Jared Brown (2nd Vice President), Pam Conrad, Kathy Cox PhD, Kristen Cusack, Matt Couch, Dave Davisson, Zayn Dweik, Brandon Edwards, Leyla Hawkins, DaVonti’ Haynes (1st Vice President), John Hickey, Doug Holmes, Jason Homan, Andy Mulach, and Al Rodack (Treasurer) for their tireless efforts and service over the past year. A heartfelt thank you to Craig Little and Julie Fridley our Alumni Association liaisons for supporting our society and encouraging us as we planned for success. Congratulations to our newly elected board Secretary Pam Conrad. Welcome to our new board members Kate Greer and Stacy Rastauskas

In a year’s time, we have taken USGAS from an almost dormant level to Scarlet Level, the highest level an alumni society can earn. Every day we are gaining momentum. Our goal is to continue to expand the reach of USGAS in order to continually improve on alumni engagement. From establishing a Mentor Program to awarding the Jeff Hayman Scholarship we are building strong and lasting relationships with our alumni while providing support for our current students and advancing the interests of USGAS.

This is an incredibly dynamic time to be involved with USGAS. We are:

  • increasing communication among alumni through social media and our redesigned website;
  • recognizing outstanding alumni achievements through nominations for Alumni Association Awards;
  • recruiting alumni volunteers to support our students as they prepare to enter the world after graduation;
  • engaging alumni on a regional level, be on the lookout for an event in DC this year; and
  • supporting the work of the University.

As we move into another programming year, I encourage you to attend a USGAS meeting and get involved. We will host a number of programs and events this year. Come learn about the history behind your favorite cocktail while making it during our Virtual Mixology Event. Impact the life of a current USG student by serving as a mentor. Learn about student life on campus by attending a Virtual Meet and Greet with Melissa Shivers, Phd, Vice President for Student Life. That is a small sample of how USGAS is committed to engaging our alumni in various ways. We hope to see you at one of our programs or events soon!

As a USGAS alumni, you are an essential part of our continued momentum. Your engagement in our programs and support of our Alumni Association including your membership in the Ohio State Alumni Association helps drive our University. We need your support and engagement! Commit to be involved today by completing a quick engagement survey to tell us the programs and events you are interested in.

We are looking forward to an exciting and productive year!

Go Bucks,
Tina D. Pierce, PhD
