2016 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Sixteen recent high school graduates and one second-year college student each have received $1,000 Ohio State University alumni scholarships to attend the university in the fall.

The ninth annual Molly B. Demuth Memorial Scholarship was established through the county OSU Alumni Club by Demuth’s family and friends to aid county students who plan to attend Ohio State’s Columbus campus. Here are the four winners.

  • Gage Miller is a Newcomerstown High School graduate and was involved in National Honor Society (President), Student Council, Camp Counselor and College Credit Plus. Gage’s intended major is Pre-Medicine.
  • Taryn Davis is a New Philadelphia High School graduate and was involved in volleyball, softball, Student Council President and National Honor Society. Davis’ intended major is finance.
  • Bret Ricklic is a New Philadelphia High School graduate and was involved in National Honor Society, football and baseball. Ricklic intends to major in Pre-Medicine.
  • Kaden Hurst is a New Philadelphia High School graduate and was involved in National Honor Society, football and Chess Club. Hurst intends to major in medical laboratory science.

The sixth annual Timothy and Karen Stokey Family Scholarship provides scholarships for first-year undergraduate students enrolled at the Columbus campus who are graduates of Dover High School and have a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. The scholarship is renewable up to one year, provided the student maintains a 2.8 GPA. This year’s recipients are:

  • Madeline Dummermuth was involved in concert choir, Ars Nova Singers, swimming, Thespians, dance team and Crimsonian. Dummermuth intends to major in both human nutrition/dietetics and business.
  • Anna Deems received the second-year renewal award. Deems is majoring in nursing.

The fifth annual Jeanne (Keppler) and Voin Boich Memorial Scholarship was established through the county OSU Alumni Club by family and friends to aid Dover High School graduates who plan to attend Ohio State. This year’s recipient is:

  • Michael Maxwell earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was involved in National Honor Society, Marching Tornadoes Drumline, Steel Band, Dominic Greco Band, Symphonic Band, Crimsonian and Science Olympiad. Maxwell’s intended major is aero and astronautical engineering.

The first annual Jose R. Samson, M.D. Memorial Scholarship was established through the county OSU Alumni Club by family to aid county students who plan to major in a medical related field. This year’s recipient is:

  • Rylan Clugston is a Tuscarawas Valley High School graduate and was involved in Flag Line Captain, lead soloist in the Tuscarawas Dance Arts Company, National Honor Society, band, Ohio Ambassador of Music to Europe and Buckeye Girls State. Clugston’s intended major is pharmaceutical science.

Recipients of the merit-based award provided by the endowment fund established by the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County are:

  • Johnathan King is a Strasburg-Franklin High School graduate and was involved in cross country, Student Council (President), National Honor Society (President), track, College Credit Plus at Kent State University Tuscarawas, Scholar Challenge (Captain), Recycling Club, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. King plans to major in environmental science.
  • Deserrae Potts is a Tuscarawas Valley High School graduate and was involved in Student Council, track, cross country, and Buckeye Girls State. Potts plans to major in physical therapy.
  • Bennett Triplett is a Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School graduate and was involved in Student Council (President), National Honor Society, 4-H, Mock Trial and Little Theater. Triplett plans to major in visual communications.
  • Bryan Troyer is an Indian Valley High School graduate and was involved in band, Class President, Scholar Challenge, Drama Club, National Honor Society, College Credit Plus and band. Troyer plans to major in meteorology.
  • Olivia Warther is a Dover High School graduate and was involved in cross country, swimming and National Honor Society. Warther plans to major in nursing.
  • Alyssa Blickensderfer is a Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School graduate and was class president and involved in National Honor Society, Voice of Democracy winner, Buckeye Girls State, volleyball, softball, bowling and Mock Trial. Blickensderfer’s intended major is neuroscience pre-med.
  • Noah Taylor is a New Philadelphia High School graduate and was involved in National Honor Society, baseball, Kent State University-Tuscarawas Cyber Club Pre-Calculus Competition Champion, County and District winner of American Legion Americanism Essay Contest and Wake Student Ministry. Taylor’s intended major is molecular genetics.
  • John Marshall is a New Philadelphia High School graduate and was involved in baseball, basketball and National Honor Society. Marshall’s major is undetermined at this time.
  • Allyson Jones is a Dover High School graduate and was involved in cheerleading, Thespians (President), Crimsonian (Editor), Class Treasurer, Concert Choir, National Honor Society, Ars Nova Singers, Dover Doo Wops, Buckeye Girls State and Camp Imagine If. Jones’ intended major is finance.
