About our Club

Who We Are

We are The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Southwest Florida. With more than 1,000 Buckeyes currently living in SW Florida, our goal is to bring together Buckeyes living in, as well as visiting Southwest Florida. We do this through our community service projects, our annual meeting and our weekly football game day gatherings. This is capped off by the football tailgate prior to the kickoff of the annual game against the team up north..

We raise money for our scholarship fund to benefit local high school students who wish to attend Ohio State. We do this by selling raffle tickets, prize auctions and through individual or corporate donations. We inform prospective Ohio State students of the opportunities that Ohio State offers through our involvement in the local college fairs at area high schools.

Where Do My Dues and Raffle Money Go?

A small part of the money raised by the club goes to support the administrative costs of the club. This includes things such as prize purchases, ID/discount cards, and flyers promoting our upcoming events.

The mission of our club is to support local students through our scholarship fund. Established in 1996 with a gift to The Ohio State University Development Fund, the SWFL Scholarship fund is used to assist local area high school graduates with their tuition at The Ohio State University.

How Can I Help?

There are several ways in which members and friends can assist in raising money for the scholarship fund. The easiest way is to directly make a cash donation to our local fund. Donations are welcomed by individuals as well as corporations. You may also donate prizes to our weekly halftime raffle, or a larger item to be auctioned off during our Homecoming and Michigan raffles. Of course your weekly participation in these raffles is greatly encouraged and appreciated. Participation in our community service projects also helps bring recognition and awareness in the community to our club and our University.

The board of your local alumni club challenges you to make a difference. Participate in club activities and help bring awareness to our great University. And most importantly, help us help students attend The Ohio State University and carry on the Buckeye tradition.

The club’s Charter and Constitution

Alumni clubs play a critical role in the success of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, and therefore also to the University’s overall mission and success.  Alumni clubs are groups of Ohio State alumni, supporters and friends.  These groups exist to promote the university, the Association, and their group through communications, community relations, student recruitment, scholarship fundraising, fellowship, networking, and other activities.

The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Southwest Florida will be governed by three documents.   The first is the Ohio State University Alumni Association Constitution, which sets forth the overall governance of the Alumni Association and it’s component members, programs, clubs and societies.  The second is the Club Charter that determines the particular rights and obligations between the Organization and the Ohio State University Alumni Association.  The third is the Club’s Constitution, which determines the internal governance of the club.
