And possibly, a personal interview with our local Scholarship Committee.

Meet our 2022 and 2023 scholarship recipient!

For the second year in a row, Ciena Sakamoto is the winner of the Seattle Alumni Club scholarship award. Congratulations, Ciena!

Ciena Sakamoto

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to work at a hospital. I loved visiting my mom, a physical therapist, at work and eating lunch with her in the break room on the weekends. When I learned about Ohio State’s neuroscience program, it was an instant match. I loved the science-driven approaches and human-oriented care of the program. When I stepped into the Shoe for the first time, I knew Ohio State was more than just a football team or a university but a forever family that I would be lucky to be a part of.

I plan to dedicate my career to pursuing ethics and sustainability in medicine with an understanding of how I can support marginalized groups with access to comprehensive healthcare. During my time at Ohio State, I will volunteer, research in the field of neuroscience, and join specialized clubs further my academic interests and strengthen my connection to my community. I am beyond excited to call Columbus home this fall. Go Buckeyes!
