Local Buckeyes Challenge Big 10 Schools to Benefit Food Bank

The Sarasota-Manatee Ohio State Alumni Club answered the challenge from the University of Michigan again this year in a food sorting challenge to benefit All Faith’s Food Bank. Last year the local UM Alumni threw down the challenge to the Ohio State club and the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines. This year, Cory Boff, past president of the local OSU Alumni chapter “upped the ante” by expanding the challenge to local Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana, and Michigan State clubs.

” It was an awesome showing for the local OSU club. It makes me feel great to see us hold true to our buckeye mantra of Paying It Forward,” Boff said. “There is nothing like competitive volunteering. It is great to give back to the local community and beat Michigan at the same time. My hope is that we will get more Big 10 schools involved in the future years, and we will continue this as an annual volunteer event.”

The local Buckeyes were able to pack over 8,000 meals for All Faith’s Food Bank. The overall winner of the challenge will not be revealed until May when the clubs reunite at All Faith’s for the official announcement of the winner.

Since 1999, the Sarasota-Manatee Ohio State Alumni Club has supported more than 30 students and has dispersed more than $90,000.  The club also supports the local community through participating in the Archie Griffin Golf Classic to raise money for the local Boys and Girls Clubs, through beach clean-ups, and by supporting the local All-Faiths Food Bank. Nearly 300 area households make up the membership of the local alumni organization.
