Graeter’s Event – September 3, 2019

Our members partnered with the University of Cincinnati NYC Alumni Club to host Graeter’s president, Rich Graeter, at the Princeton Club. We listened as Rich shared his family’s story and explained how after four generations the Cincinnati-based company still uses the same French pot method originally employed by his great-grandfather in 1870.

After Rich’s presentation, our members had the opportunity to sample Graeter’s special Buckeye Blitz ice cream which was released to commemorate Grater’s and Ohio State’s joint sesquicentennial anniversaries.

In support of Graeter’s Cones for the Cure initiative our attendees generously raised over $1,000 to support the life-saving work of the Cure Starts Now organization.

Club members gathered at Pig Beach to celebrate the newest members of Buckeye Nation. We hosted over a dozen local students who will begin their studies at Ohio State this autumn. The afternoon was filled with fun, food, and festivities. Among the students in attendance were several of our club scholarship recipients. This year, the NYC Alumni Club awarded $6,000 to six outstanding members of the Ohio State Class of 2023.

Holiday Dinner – December 5, 2018

The club hosted a holiday dinner for over 50 local alumni at Fraunces Tavern, one of New York’s oldest and most iconic establishments.

Since opening in 1762, Fraunces Tavern has served as a headquarters for George Washington, a venue for peace negotiations with the British, and a federal office building during the early years of the Republic.

Before dinner, club members explored the Fraunces Museum free of charge. Distinguished alumnus and celebrated local artist Mark Gagnon (’82) delivered the evening’s keynote remarks. Attendees also generously donated more than 20 toys to benefit the New York Coalition for the Homeless’ annual toy drive.

New York Yankees Outing – August 19, 2018

Over 50 local alumni came together to watch the New York Yankees take on the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. The event was part of the university’s “New Buckeyes, New City” initiative and served as an official welcome to the NYC Alumni Club for 22 members of the Class of 2018.

Despite cloudy skies and rain, everyone enjoyed a pre-game buffet on the MasterPass Batter’s Eye Deck in center field. During the reception, Brendan Smith (’08) was honored with the Rising Buckeye award. Since graduating, Brendan has served his country in the Navy, managed an office tower in Manhattan and is currently employed as the director of engineering for the NYC Ferry.
