2019-20 Scholarship Recipients

Incoming Ohio State students

Stephen Demos (Huron)
Stephen’s many accomplishments include being student body president, a member of National Honor Society, founding member and captain of Speech and Debate team, All-SBC recognition in football and earning an Honors with Distinction diploma. Stephen plans to major in economics at Ohio State and go on to attend law school. He is the recipient of the Alumni Scholars Program scholarship which is awarded to our committee’s highest rated scholarship applicant.


Augustino Majoy (Huron)
Tino’s many accomplishments include being a commended National Merit Scholar, receiving state honors as a percussionist in marching band and being a varsity letter winner in football, track and wrestling. Tino plans to study engineering at Ohio State.

Will Roth (St. Mary Central Catholic)
Will’s many accomplishments include being president of National Honor Society, senior class treasurer, a member of Firelands Academic Challenge, team captain and All-SBC selection in wrestling and football. He will graduate as valedictorian of his senior class at St. Mary’s. Will plans to study chemical engineering at Ohio State and is the recipient of a Hancock Engineering Scholarship.


Wyatt Kromer (Huron)
Wyatt’s many accomplishments include being ranked fourth in an outstanding academic class at Huron, being a member of National Honor Society, varsity soccer and Academic Challenge teams. In addition, Wyatt volunteers at St. Peter Church and is an Eagle Scout. Wyatt plans to major in mechanical engineering and computer science.


Alexis Whited-Gant (Sandusky)
Alexis’ many accomplishments include being president of National Honor Society, vice president of the senior class and the SHS Orchestra, captain of the soccer team, and a varsity letter winner in track. Finally, she has achieved perfect attendance throughout high school. Alexis plans to study dentistry and specialize in orthodontics at Ohio State.


Elizabeth Albrethsen (Vermilion)
Elizabeth’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, Scholastic Key winner, Lamp of Learning award, Academic Challenge team, Big Sisters mentor and being on the volleyball team. She plans to pursue a career in engineering and is receiving a Hancock Engineering Scholarship.


Gabriella Sasala (Huron)
Gabby’s many accomplishments include earning an Honors Diploma with Distinction, National Honor Society, varsity letter winner in basketball and captain of the softball team. She plans to study biology and hopes to attend medical school to earn a doctorate in geriatric medicine.


Claire Stefano (Perkins)
Claire is an honor roll student, scholar athlete, senior class officer, member of National Honor Society, yearbook editor and earned Academic All-Ohio recognition in soccer. Claire is undecided on a major but is looking forward to the freshman exploration program at Ohio State. Claire is receiving our Bob Hower Memorial Scholarship.

Allison Gresh (Huron)
Allison’s accomplishments include serving as vice president of National Honor Society, secretary of Student Council, and being named All-SBC Conference and All-District in volleyball. Allison will be studying marketing in the Fisher College of Business with a minor in Spanish. Allison is receiving our Croteau Memorial Scholarship.


Natalie Vargas (St Mary Central Catholic)
Natalie’s many accomplishments include National Honor Society, vice president of Student Council and Key Club, Erie County Youth Advisory Council and earning varsity letters in swimming and tennis. Natalie plans to become a dentist with her extra professional time being dedicated to participating in dental missions to underserved countries.

Current Ohio State upperclassmen

Keegan Hall (2016 graduate of Edison High School)
Keegan is a junior in the Fisher College of Business where he maintains a 3.83 GPA in his finance major. At Ohio State, Keegan is a Provost Scholar, consistently on the Dean’s List, a member of the Association for the Business of Sports, a volunteer for Fisher Impact Day and an Ohio State intramural basketball star.

Elizabeth Mills (2017 graduate of Huron High School)
Elizabeth is a sophomore majoring in Speech and Hearing Science with a 4.0 grade point average with plans to attend graduate school for Speech Pathology. She is active in Ohio State chapters of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, Advocates for Communities and Education Scholars and Operation Smile, which supports cleft lip and palate surgeries. Elizabeth is currently in Italy studying abroad with Ohio State.

Ben Gastier (2017 graduate of Edison High School)
Ben is a sophomore biology major enrolled in pre-med classes, earning a 3.89 GPA. He plans to attend medical school to specialize in orthopedic sports medicine. Ben volunteers in the following programs at Ohio State; College Mentor for Kids, the Wounded Warrior Project, and at The James Cancer Hospital. Currently, he works part time as a research intern at Children’s Hospital.

Cameron Anderson (2017 graduate of Perkins High School)
Cameron is a sophomore majoring in computer science and engineering. At Ohio State, he is enrolled in University Honors courses, a member of the Collaborative Software Club, an Ohio State Welcome Team Leader, participates in intramural soccer, and is the founder of the Raney Hall 7th Floor Dinner Club.

Nicholas Frederick (2017 graduate of Edison High School)
Nick is a sophomore finance major in the Fisher College of Business where he earns a 3.89 GPA. As a University Honors student, he has studied abroad in London, England, Santiago, Chile and at Stone Lab in Lake Erie. Currently he works as a student accounting assistant at The Blackwell and has served as a Legislative Page at the Ohio Statehouse. He volunteers as an Honors & Scholars Ambassador and is our Erie County Alumni Club’s student representative. Nick is also a member of the Ohio State Sailing Club.
