LTC (Ret.) Robert L. Joseph, ’68, ’70, ’75

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Robert L. Joseph graduated from The Ohio State University in 1968 as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology from OSU. In 1970 he received a Master of Science degree in Horticulture/ Food Processing and Technology from OSU. He received a PhD in Horticulture/Food Processing and Technology in 1975. After three years on active duty during 1970- 1973, LTC Joseph balanced careers for twenty-three yeas (1973-1996) as a civilian food scientist, first at The Ohio State University, then at Abbott Nutrition, and as a citizen Soldier in the Army Reserve.

Since 1995 he has served as Secretary of the Army ROTC Alumni Society, arranging many events and activities for this award winning organization . He has been recognized with The Ohio State University Alumni Association ‘s Professional Achievement Award , The OSU Alumni Leader Award , and the Army ROTC Battalion’s Most Supportive Alumnus Award . He is currently an Associate Research Fellow in research and development at Abbot Nutrition. He has also been recognized with: The OSU School of Home Economics Outstanding Faculty Award, The OSU College of Agriculture Distinguished Service to Students Award , Abbott Labs Outstanding Research Team Member, Abbott Labs Chairman’s Award and The Ross Medical Nutritionals Award of Excellence. He is the inventor and co-inventor of ten patents in the food and nutrition field . On active duty he has served as a US Army Quartermaster School Instructor and Troop Support Agency Food Advisor . In the Army Reserve, he served as Platoon Leader, 7061th Transportation Company, and Company Commander , 1751h Quartermaster Company. He was on staff as the PSYOP and Intelligence Officer, 246th Psychological Operations Company, and Instructor and Director, 2078th Reserve Forces School. His military awards include The National Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
